Game Review

This match against bottom of the table South Melbourne at Princes Park was wrapped up by half-time when the Bloods, with only 0.2 on the scoreboard, trailed by 27 points. The home side cruised through the second half, kicking 3.3 to 2.6 to record a another percentage-boosting win by five goals. Incidentally, although it numbered only 9,000, this was the largest crowd to attend a Carlton - South Melbourne match for 15 years - after a huge 30,000-plus in 1888.

Up forward for Carlton, Joe Sullivan maintained his scoring consistency, and joined a four-way log jam at the top of the goal-kicking table. Four players; Sullivan, Ike Woods of Geelong, and Collingwood pair Lockwood and Rowell were all equal on 24 majors for the season.

Meanwhile, in other matches, St Kilda caused one of the upsets of the year by knocking over Fitzroy at the Junction Oval. Carlton was now equal second with the Maroons, just one win and a few percentage points behind Collingwood.
