Game Review
Fitzroy stuck with the Blues until half-time in this clash at Waverley, but faded in the third quarter to be beaten by six goals.Although we didn't realise it at the time, the most significant aspect of the game was that at marked the debut of one of Carlton's all-time great rovers; Hall of Fame inductee Rod Ashman, in the first of his 236 valuable games for the Old Dark Navy Blues. This win bolstered Carlton's percentage, and our firm grip on second place on the ladder behind Collingwood.
Carlton carried on their winning way after a slow start in which the pacy Lions showed out early, but failed to match the better team-playing Blues after half time. It was Carlton's third win in a row and they kicked their highest score for six games against Fitzroy. - Football Record.
