At the Carlton Sports Day, W. H. McClure took part in the Second Twenty Drop Kick Competition.

1873 May 31
McClure is named in a 24 man Second Twenty squad to play St. Kilda at St. Kilda.

1873 June 07
McClure was named among Carlton Second Twenty better players in a match against Essendon at McCracken's Paddock, Flemington Hill.
This was the Essendon Football Club's first official match.
Carlton Second Twenty lost, 0-1

Early in 1878 what looks like the signature of W. H. McClure of Carlton, is on a petition that was presented to the Melbourne City Council calling on the Council to provide a permanent ground for the Carlton Football Club.
