Game Review

This was the only time during the first VFL ‘Night’ Series (1956-1971) that the 4 sides playing in the finals participated in the ‘Night’ Series and they all entered at the semi final stage and their were 6 semi finals, with all 'final 4' sides being defeated. Carlton was again defeated by South Melbourne, 12 days after being knocked out of the (day) finals by Hawthorn in their (day) first semi final. (South Melbourne also won this 'night' premiership that was played at their home ground for the second consecutive season, also defeated another 'day finalist' in Essendon in the last of the semi finals). The League then considered that the sides playing in their VFL finals didn't take the 'Night' series seriously.
