Bickford was born in Flemington, he played 2 games for Carlton, sharing a career record with contemporaries Bill Grant, Jack Hammond and Andy Kennedy. He debuted in the same game as Harvey Gibson, who would only manage the single game for the Blues.

Bickford also played for Melbourne after his stint with the Blues, he played 9 games with Melbourne from 1908 to 1909. He originally came from Essendon(VFA).

Albert's brother Edric Bickford also played for Carlton. The sister of the Bickford brothers, Alice Mary Bickford married Carlton Legend Rod McGregor in 1911. Albert's nephew (Edric's son) George was the best player for Melbourne in the 1948 Grand Final. George's son (Alberts's Great-nephew) Stephen Bickford played 15 games for Melbourne in the early 1980's.

Bickford passed away on the 23rd December, 1971 aged 84.
