Recruited from Fitzroy Crescent (he also played for Carlton VFA & Fitzroy VFA), Hearnden played 3 games for Carlton after debuting in 1899. He played his last game aged 25 years and 127 days. In June of 1899 Hearnden was granted a permit back to Fitzroy Crescent.

Hearnden was born in North Melbourne, and passed away on the 23rd October 1951 aged 77.

Mark Pennings in his Volume 5 of 'Origins of Australian Football' has Alfred Henry Hearnden playing 2 games in 1893.

1893 August 26
Hearnden was not named in the initial Carlton squad, but appears in Mark Pennings' Carlton line-up in the forward pocket.

1893 September 02
Once again not named in the squad but appears on the half forward flank in Pennings' Carlton

A funeral for Alfred Henry Hearnden was held on October 25 1951 leaving from 76 Dundas Street Thornbury for the Fawkner Crematorium.
