Wittmann was born in Clifton Hill, and recruited from Carlton District. He wore guernsey #24 in 12 games at Carlton, commencing in Season 1920. Wittmann managed an impressive 13 goals in his time in the seniors.

Although from a distance Wittmann's career would seem brief, it was filled from big games and big players. In Wittmann's debut, he would see the final match for Carlton Legend Rod McGregor, and in his final match, he would see Vallence kicking the only bag of 13 goals ever achieved by a Blue.

Wittman passed away on the 8th October, 1987 aged 86.
