Game Review
It took more than 12 months, but Carlton eventually racked up its first premiership points against a team other than St Kilda when we knocked over the Bloods at Princes Park.The margin should have been greater, but Carlton's forwards squandered some relatively easy shots on goal in the last quarter, and we registered 1 goal, 6 behinds for the term. Bobby Walsh and Wally Ocock were lively up front for the Blues, and picked up five goals between them.
"That Carlton have a powerful and clever ruck was demonstrated on Saturday, when Manchester, Morrison, O'Dea, and Pender on the ball beat South at their own game.
Jim Aitken, the Carlton captain, played under difficulties against South Melbourne. He had been suffering from influenza, and early in the week was in bed for two days."

"Carlton played a strong ruck, prominent in which was Manchester, a rapidly improving follower, while a pair of former North Melbourne players - O'Dea and Morrison - have been brought in to strengthen the team - in its play. Pender - who played a few matches with Geelong - shaped very well in the ruck. Roberts started the game, but was unfortunate in having his leg injured, and it is doubtful whether he will take further part in football. Four novices - Starkey, Brown, Ward and Barlow - all shaped well enough to merit further trials. Amongst the forwards Walsh and Breese were very good, the former getting three, and the latter two goals." (Argus May 16 p3)
