Game Review
Despite a very inaccurate first quarter in which they kicked eight behinds, the Blues regained their composure and came away comfortable winners against Geelong at Corio Oval. Carlton’s ruck division was on top throughout, allowing rovers Archie Snell and Alex Lang to constantly drive the Blues forward. Mick Grace kicked another three goals to continue his excellent season. In other matches, Fitzroy put Collingwood’s finals place under threat when they skittled the Magpies by 44 points at Victoria Park, and St Kilda upset South Melbourne at the Junction Oval. The top four was now Carlton, Essendon, Fitzroy and Collingwood.
Essendon’s impressive first-year full-forward Norm Yeo retained his place on top of the goal-kickers list with 29 majors, ahead of Carlton’s Grace (26) and Frank ‘Silver’ Caine (25).
At the end of this round Carlton were in 1st spot on the ladder with a percentage of 157.3.
