Game Review
Avenging their first loss to the Mayblooms in Round 5, Carlton struck back to inflict a 10-goal thrashing. Ken Baxter and Paul Schmidt carried on their goal-kicking spree, with 4 apiece. At the end of this round Carlton were in 4th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 124.4.
Wrong Way
Despite both McLean and Rae kicking the ball at least 40 yards in the wrong direction, Hawthorn were unable to capitalize on the mistakes and only scored two points.Footnote
"Hawthorn players wore black arm bands in the match against Carlton as a mark of respect to Mr. William Owen, a founder of the club, who fell dead near Glenferrie Oval last Saturday week."(Sun News Pic. Aug 14 p39)
