Game Review
Prior to this traditional clash, the Blues were struggling to maintain a finals lifeline, while the 'Pies were threatening to play a leading role in September. Collingwood had inflicted Carlton's fourth consecutive loss in round 5, and Carlton took the field with several stars under an injury cloud. Result? A fabulously enjoyable day. Brian Walsh's five second-quarter goals provided a glorious highlight. Now perhaps, not only could we make the last five, but really make our presence felt.
Carlton kicked their highest ever tally at VFL Park to record their 13th win in 17 matches and be the outstanding club performer at the League's ground when they downed Collingwood in an action-packed game. The Blues score of 18.10.118 was their highest score against the Magpies in the last four games, and they inflicted the first loss Collingwood have suffered in eight games. Highlight of the match was the seven goals kicked by the Blues solidly built rover Brian Walsh - six in the first half. - Football Record.
