Game ReviewCarlton on the ropes following 3 consecutive losses and with a couple of debutantes. Collingwood appearing in good form at 3-1. Playing at Victoria Park. This could get ugly.
The Blues however produced a highly commendable performance to push the Magpies almost to breaking point.
A strong first half provided a 2 goal advantage. The effort began to tell during the third and Collingwood managed to wrest a 1 point lead by orange-time. The Pies unfortunately took control in the last and ran out 18 point winners.
Carlton's effort suggested that perhaps their form was turning and wins could be just around the corner.
Carlton tried desperately to break their run of losses this season, but found the big man strength of Len Thompson and the team work of Collingwood too great in the dying minutes of a very entertaining game filled with all the best features of our game. Apart from VFL Park or MCG games, this was the Blues eighth "away" game loss in a row, fourth loss in a row this year and their second loss to Collingwood at Victoria Park. - Football Record.
