Game Review
A pathetic St Kilda were easily dispatched by Carlton in a total mismatch. The game was essentially over as a contest by early in the 2nd quarter and the only interest after half-time revolved around the Saints chances of scoring a major.
Saints full-forward Peter Bennett robbed the match of even this macabre interest when he goaled in the third term. He eventually registered all 3 of St Kilda's goals. Bennett was a champion waterpolo player who represented Australia at the Helsinki and Melbourne Olympics. Playing for St Kilda in this era was a pointless and generally thankless task, which probably explains why he retired from football to concentrate on his aquatic endeavours.
