Game Review
Carlton were forced to go into this match without Greg Williams, after the AFL appealed the decision which had previously overturned the 9 match suspension handed out by the tribunal after Round 1. This meant he would be ineligible to play again until 1998- if he decided to play on (and ultimately he would never play an AFL match again). The match was tight in the first half with inaccurate kicking proving costly for the Blues. They would be just 4 points up at half time despite having 4 more scoring shots. By 3/4 time they were down 2 points despite 3 extra shots. But the Roos took complete control in the final quarter, booting 6 goals to Carlton's 4 behinds to run out 38 point winners.
Anthony Koutoufides was busy with 29 possessions, while Craig Bradley had 23. Michael Sexton with 23 and Andrew McKay with 21 were solid in defence. Brad Pearce was lively with 11 marks before going down with yet another injury.
