Game Review
This miserable, wet day was memorable for the dominance of Carlton rover Rod Ashman, who played his 100th game for the Blues and collected 42 disposals to be clearly best on ground. The only blemish in "Ashy's" game came around the goals, where he scored 1.5 from six shots.By contrast, Rino Pretto scored full points after his only mark and only kick in his solitary game for Fitzroy. However, Pretto would later go on to be a prolific full-forward for VFA club Oakleigh throughout the 1980's.
Carlton rover Rod Ashman went on a kick-winning spree against Fitzroy at VFL Park, and was a major factor behind the Blues victory. Ashman revelled in the wet and trying conditions that were ideally suited to his in and under style of play that set up a lot of attacking play for the Blues. - Inside Football Player of the Year.
