Game Review
The Cats, second-bottom in 1973 and a bad first-round loser to the Bulldogs, surprised the Blues with a narrow home win.Carlton enjoyed the use of the breeze in the first quarter to post a 5 goal advanatage. Geelond replied with an emphatic 8 goals to 1 when they had their first chance to use the wind. The Blues failed to make the most of their opportunities in the third adding only 1-6 whilst the Cats managed 3-4.
Despite playing possibly their best football of the afternoon, attempting to overhaul a 19 point deficit kicking against the strong wind in the final term proved too much for the Blues. The Cats 3 straight was enough to see off our boys who registered 4-4.
Interestingly, contemporary reports comment on Geelong's "amazing 98 handballs" as the "story of the game". The Blues had 38 handballs.
