Game Review
This 1973 Grand Final rematch provided further disappointment for Carlton. After a promising first quarter, with Jesaulenko looking likely to cut the Tigers up, Richmond took complete control in the second. Carlton rallied in an even third stanza, but the reigning Premiers extended their lead effortlessly during the last term.The despised Kevin Sheedy and (only slightly less despised) Kevin Bartlett dominated for the Punt Road heathens, who finished up with two of their fairer players in Francis Bourke and Royce Hart both on report for striking.
Richmond and Carlton fought out an almost "grudge match" at Princes Park, with the Tigers showing too much marking, skill and tenacity for the Blues in a match described in some circles as the most 'vicious for years". As a result of three reports from the game, Richmond captain Royce Hart received a two week suspension - his first in League football (142 games), while Robert Walls and Francis Bourke will be available to play the following game. - Football Record.
