Game Review
Battling 25 degree heat, Carlton fought its way to a three - point victory in a cliff-hanger against the Brisbane Bears at Carrara.Carlton had a four goal wind in the last quarter and used it well to hit the lead at the 29 minute mark after starting the quarter 15 points down. Ian Herman sharked a Justin Madden tap-out and goaled from a very tight angle to put the Blues in front. The Bears tried to get one back through Bernie Harris minutes later, but he only managed a behind.
Carlton manages to 'get out of jail' for the second successive week when it comes from behind in the dying minutes of its match against Brisbane Bears at Carrara and steals the four premiership points. The tenacious Bears hold a 15 point lead coming into the final quarter, but Carlton, kicking with the aid of a strong breeze, are expected to steamroll them. A quick goal to Blues skipper Stephen Kernahan heightens expectations of a last quarter blitz by the reigning premiers, however the Bears dig deep within their resources and manage to hang on to a slender lead until promising youngster Ian Herman steers through the matchwinning goal with just a couple of minutes left in the contest. The Blues nearly throw the game away with inaccurate kicking in the final term, booting 3.9 to their opponents 1.3. - Tony Greenberg Inside Football.
