Game Review
Although best known as a hard, straight-running dual Premiership defender, Vincent ‘Vinny’ Waite played some handy games as a pinch-hitting forward during his 153-game career for Carlton between 1966 and 1975. In this match, Waite set a new round 22 goal-scoring record when he used his strength to advantage in the mud and slush of Moorabbin Oval, and booted seven majors as Carlton beat St Kilda by 22 points. This game was also the last in Navy Blue for Carlton's free-running 1972 Premiership defender Paul Hurst, who was cleared to Melbourne in the off-season.
