Game Review
At VFL Park where Footscray gave Carlton a real battle, the Blues ever-reliable Val Perovic was judged best afield. - Hutton's Inside Football Player of the Year. This nondescript game nearly provided the Goal of the Year by none other than new recruit Mario Bortolotto!
He started from the half-back line (that was a long way from goal at VFL Park!) took 4 or 5 bounces and shot for goal....and it hit the post! Because Mario missed, and it was not a telecast match (although I daresay some sort of footage was probably taken) a great solo effort has been all but forgotten about.
Footscray stayed close to Carlton all day but eventually the Bulldogs lack of a key forward let them down. - Football Record.
