Game Review
This game - in which Vin Waite would score two goals with his first two kicks in League football (within a minute of each other in the first five minutes of the game) - should be remembered as a watershed for the Blues. With Ron Barassi's influence taking shape in his second year as captain-coach, this was one of the youngest teams ever to take the field for Carlton. The match was also important because it was the first time in 13 seasons that the Blues had won a game on the hallowed turf of the MCG - beginning of a wonderful era of dominance on this ground, which would see a further eight Carlton premierships in the next 30 years.By now, the Blues were up to fifth - still one win outside the top four of St. Kilda, Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon.
Ron Barassi continued his good form for Carlton against former club Melbourne, which managed just three goals for the day. - Football Record.
Melbourne's 3.14 (32) was their lowest score against Carlton for 46 years. In 1920 the Demons scored 3.7 (25) to Carlton's 12.15 (87) at Princes Park. - Football Record.
