Game Review
The long down-trodden Swans had not played any finals since the much talked-about "Bloodbath" Grand Final of 1945 but were showing signs that 1970 might just be the year.Carlton headed Lakeside with a 5-1 record and a recent history of big-game performances (Premiers in 1968 and runners-up in 1969). They also had the hottest player in the comp in Alex Jesaulenko. Surely they would put the Southerners in their place.
Kicking with a strong breeze in the first term the Blues soon led 5-3 to nothing. Thereafter, humiliation. The Blues were outscored 150-40, including 93-5 during the 2nd and 4th quarters when South had the wind. Clearly these Swans were a team to be reckoned with.
