W. Marshall is named in the Carlton 1866 team list in Mark Pennings' book "Origin of Australian Football."

1869 October 02
W. Marshall is named in the 23 man Carlton Second Twenty squad that played Brunswick at Brunswick.

1872 October 12
At the Carlton F. C. Sports Day, W. Marshall took part in a number of events, same person?

The Footballer annual of 1876 gives a write up of Sydney rugby teams and says of the club Waratah;
"W. Marshall, an old Victorian player, has played several matches this season and is another treasure to the team, his fleetness of foot and good tackling powers have come in very useful."
Waratah would later break away from the Rugby Union and became an Australian Football Club.

W. Marshall was the brother of Carlton captain and long serving V.F.A. secretary Theophilis S. Marshall

Theophilis S. Marshall had two brothers with W first names, William 4 years older, and Walter Marshall 4 years younger than T. S.

1882 W. C. Marshall presided at the meeting of the New South Wales Football Association on Monday 15 May at the Cambridge Club Hotel.

Walter C. Marshall was treasurer of the East Sydney Football Club 1880 - 1886, and vice president in 1890.

1885 September 14 Monday
At an end of season get together on Saturday, the East Sydney Football Club presented trophies to successful players.
"The members of the club took advantage of the occasion to present Mr. W. C. Marshall with a valuable timepiece in appreciation of the services rendered by that gentleman in establishing the Australian game of football in New South Wales. Mr. J. Portus who made the presentation, referred in eulogistic terms to the zealous manner in which Mr. Marshall had worked for years to promote the interests of the game, and stated he was entitled to the designation of the father of the game as played here under Australian rules. Mr. Marshall made a brief, but suitable response."

1886 April 07 Wednesday
W. C. Marshall was elected hon. sec. of the N.S.W. Football Association.

1887 June 14 Tuesday
East Sydney Football Club held a smoke night at the Cambridge Club Hotel.
W. Marshall presided and was one of the entertainers during the evening.

1890 at a reception given to the Carlton Football Club by the Mayor of Sydney. The newspaper report said he was the brother of Theophilis S. Marshall and he had been in Sydney for 20 years and had done more than anyone in promoting the game in the northern city.
The report said he was a former Carlton player.

1908 August 05 Wednesday
"In the early days of the Australian game in Sydney Mr. W. C. Marshall was hon. treasurer, and otherwise an ardent worker on the governing body, then called the New South Wales Football Association. Footballers of the old brigade will be sorry to hear that Mr. Marshall is suffering a serious illness, and will wish him complete recovery."

1908 September 16 Wednesday
Walter Crawford Marshall died at his residence "Fernbank" 70 Gordon Street Paddington aged 60 years.
He was buried at the Waverley Cemetery in Sydney on the 19 September.

"The death on Wednesday evening of Mr. Walter Crawford Marshall removes one of the best known figures in Masonic and Scottish circles in Sydney.
.......Born in Glasgow 61 years ago, the deceased gentleman was throughout his life an enthusiastic Scot, and for many years occupied the position of honorary treasurer of the Highland Society of New South Wales.
.......He was a widower, his wife having predeceased him many years. He leaves no family, and only one brother, Major Marshall, of Melbourne.

"It is with regret that I chronicle the demise of one of the oldest and most respected players of the Australasian game, in the person of the late Mr. W. C. Marshall, who played in the 70's with the Carlton Club, Victoria, and whose memory will be kindly cherished by all had the pleasure of his acquaintance. His remains were laid to rest in the Waverley Cemetery on Saturday afternoon last, and were followed to the grave by a large gathering, including many members of the Highland Society and the Masonic fraternity, in both of which bodies he held high positions.

1919 May 21
The Sydney sports newspaper The Referee recalling the Carlton - Waratah matches in 1877 at both Australian Football and Rugby, said;
"Many of other players have passed to the world beyond, among them Mr. Watty Marshall, whose efforts were mainly responsible for the Waratahs and Carltons meeting."

Brother of former Carlton Captain & long serving Secretary of the Victorian Football Association, Major Theophilis S. Marshall long serving State School principal and then Chief Officer of the Country Fire Brigades (CFA) in Victoria.
