Metropolitan Amateur Football Association (M.A.F.A.)
Clubs: Beverley, Carlton District, Caulfield, Collegians, Collingwood District, Fitzroy Juniors, Hawthorn City, Leopold, South Yarra, University
"The Metropolitian Association is so confirmed in its attitude towards professionalism in football that only a season or two ago it introduced the word amateur into its title,
and as the Metropolitan Amateur Football Association it has since been known.
The association is as well governed as any organisation of the kind in the metropolitan area, and the officials have set their faces against anything that savors of professionalism,
with the result that at any of their matches players, many of whom are of the first rank, may be seen battling earnestly with each other for the sheer love of the game and
the honor of their clubs,"
"The association has been indirectly asked by the Victorian Football League to alter its rules so as to permit a freer exchange of players in the two bodies. The association, however,
condiers that the league's proposal would not fit in with its attitude as an amateur organisation, and, though the matter has so far only been informally discussed, the majority of the officials
have already expressed themselves averse to any change in the rules.
Most of the clubs in the association have an arrangement for the exchange of players with the league clubs on whose grounds they play. Hawthorn and Caulfield, two of the exceptions,
have grounds of their own, but it is likely that an arrangement will shortly be come to whereby these clubs will exchange players with Melbourne and Essendon repectively." (Herald April 25 p4 1913)
"Carlton District are going to be a strong club numerically as well as in the field. They have fully 40 players in training, and a large number of these are showing satisfactory form, the selectors will have no easy task in picking the team, a number of last season's players have changed their allegiance.
R. Cazaly goes to St.Kilda; H. Matheson to Queenscliff; J. Duggan to Geelong; and W. Colvin and W. Gibbons to the local senior team, but Matters will be about balanced by a number of new players, including Les Rowe, an old Carltonite, who returns from Brunswick; J. Walsh of Northcote; H. Lang, E. Carter, and J. Stewart, a fine all-round player who has done service with St.Kilda and North Melbourne.
Taken all round the team will be one of the strongest that has ever represented the club.
The office-bearers are:-
President; Mr. W. F. Evans, hon-treasurer, Mr. R. Millikin, and hon-secretary, Mr. H. Numa." (Herald April 25 p4)
