The 1970's: A Summary
The 1970's were a supreme era for the Carlton Football Club, with two great teams leading the way. First was the continuation of our Grand Final teams from 1968 and 1969, who went on to play in the 1970, 1972 and 1973 Grand Finals and brought home Premierships number 10 and 11 to Princes Park.Later on in the decade, a new great team was brewing on the back of our 1979 Grand Final win, with the team going on to win back-to-back Premierships in 1981 and 1982.
Overall, the 1970's would deliver three Premierships for 1970, 1972 and 1979, from 4 Grand Finals in a fantastic era for the Club and fans old enough to remember the time.
Carlton also had its share of political turmoil in the 1970's, with the club having five coaches - John Nicholls, Ian Thorogood, Ian Stewart, Serge Silvagni and Alex Jesaulenko - between 1975 and 1978.
