1884 Recruited from the Waverly club. (a junior Carlton team)

Kelly was named in 13 Carlton teams and was named among Carlton's better players in quite a few games.

1884 June 14
Carlton played Hotham on the M.C.G.
This was Kelly's debut and he was one of the better players and scored a goal.

1884 July 05
Carlton played Geelong on the M.C.G.
Kelly was named in the team squad and played in the match.

1884 July 12
The following week Kelly was named amongst the Blues' better players in the match against Melbourne on the M.C.G.

1885 J. P. Kelly left for the University club where he played 10-18 games 1885-1888.

1889 Returned to the Blues from University.

1890 Origins of Australian Football Vol 3 (P441) lists J. Kelly leaving for Numurkah.
There was a Carlton player a Walter Kelly who played for Numurkah. Same person?
