Game Review

Fielding an unchanged team, Carlton easily accounted for Essendon this match at the East Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Blues’ defence was impenetrable once more, and the Same Old kicked just one goal in the first three quarters.

Perhaps the only blemish in the victory was Carlton’s continued inaccuracy in front of goal – 10.18 to 3.7 is a thrashing by any measure – but 14.14 to 3.7 would have been a truer reflection of the visiting team’s dominance. After a quiet few weeks, Frank Caine kicked 4 goals in a welcome return to form, whilst his team had winners in every position.

Ahead now for Carlton lay Sectional matches against South Melbourne, Essendon (again) and Melbourne, to decide the exact order of the four sides that would play off for the 1907 Premiership. Two wins and a huge 40% clear of Collingwood, South Melbourne and St Kilda at the top of the ladder, the Navy Blues were the warmest of flag favourites.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 1st spot on the ladder with a percentage of 162.7.
