Game Review
For the second week in a row, Carlton's trademark third quarter blitz came in the second term instead. This time, the victims were Essendon. The Bombers were blown out of the sky by Carlton's 7.6 for the quarter, and from then on they were never a threat.
Mark Maclure and
Rod Galt provided reliable marking targets up front and kicked seven goals between them, in what turned out to be
Phil Pinnell's final game.
In other matches, North Melbourne climbed back into second spot on the ladder with good win over Collingwood, and Fitzroy suffered a costly loss to Richmond in a high-scoring contest at the SCG on Sunday. The top five were Carlton, North Melbourne, Essendon, Fitzroy and Collingwood.
