Game Review
The Blues won their third match for the year, and second in a row, against the hapless St Kilda. Footy fans of the day were already seeing how the Saints would struggle, with a percentage of 52 and still to win a game.Carlton were second on the ladder, 1 game off the undefeated Melbourne, and up on percentage from Footscray, Essendon, Hawthorn and Geelong - each with 3 wins.
St.Kilda were on top before half time. Winning in the ruck and across the centre the Saints should have been leading by six goals at the main break. In the second term the ball passed the centre into the Blues' half just half six times, however, Carlton made the most of it and scored 3.1 whereas the dominating St.Kilda could only kick 1.10! "Carlton's small men never failed to take advantage of the few crumbs which came their way."
Carlton Coach Perc Bentley
"I was a bit disappointed with our display in the first half, but it must be remembered that there were four or five players in our team having their first or second League games. In the last half the game was opened out. Carlton players started looking for men, and began to help one another. Then they played as they really can play."Best
