Game Review
Essendon's home ground of Windy Hill lived up to its name on this blustery Saturday afternoon. Carlton captain Ken Hands won the toss and kicked with the breeze, and a quarter time the Blues led by almost seven goals. However, Essendon used the wind equally as well in the second term, and their champion full-forward John Coleman booted five goals from five kicks. The Age said; "Ken McKaige (his young opponent) was in trouble, but handled Coleman expertly, as Coleman did not kick another goal until just before the final bell."Even so,the Blues were humbled by 45 points, and tumbled to seventh on the ladder.
Carlton led Essendon 6.6 to 0.1 at quarter time of their game but kicked only 1.5 for the remainder of the match. The Bombers won 14.14.98 to 7.11.53. John Coleman booted six goals to take his total to 52 for the season. - Football Record.
