Game Review
Appearing under
David Parkin for the first time since 1985, Carlton put on an impressive performance in front of a sizeable Tasmanian crowd. The Blues opened with seven goals in the opening 15 minutes and while the Lions doggedly stuck to their task from then on (getting to within sixteen points early in the third term), they simply could not match the Blues for four quarters.
A very pleasing aspect of the win was the fact that the players were prepared to do the little things, together with the fact that they were still full of running right until the final siren.
Peter Sartori,
Andrew Cavedon and
Jon Dorotich all had stints on the ball in the absence of Justin Madden and the Blues' running game showed signs of a resurgence.
Younger players
Andrew Phillips,
Michael Sexton and
Brett Ratten all showed good signs, with the latter two joining Cavedon in the centre square at one stage to form a very inexperienced - but promising - on-ball brigade.
Dorotich,
Stephen Kernahan and
Mil Hanna rounded off the good work upfield by providing a variety of options up forward.
