The Blues made a number of changes to their Rookie List heading in to 2019, with Silvagni retiring and Glass-McCasker moving on. Post the draft, where the Blues made 4 choices, we would have 3 slots but would make only 2 choices:
Pick 1: Hugh Goddard
Pick 19: Tomas Bugg
In a new rule for season 2019, the Blues also picked up Michael Gibbons and Matt Cottrell through the Supplementary Pre-Draft Arrangements. Both boys had been able to train with Carlton in the pre-season, where the Blues entered the list 1 short but also lost Sam Docherty to an ACL. Both boys join as Rookies but can play come Round 1.
The boys would join Kym Lebois and Matt Owies on our Rookie List for the year.
As a semi-awkward post-script, Bugg would retire in the same pre-season to pursue business interests. This would give rise to a rookie pick in the Mid Season Draft, where the Blues selected Josh Deluca, an ex-Docker and 4 time WAFL Premiership Player.
