Bill Swan, father of Collingwood Brownlow Medalist and premiership star Dane Swan, began his Under 19's and Reserves career at Carlton over 1973 / 1974, moving on to the senior list at the time in guernsey 39. A smart player very handy around goals, Swan moved to VFA Club Port Melbourne, becoming a dual J J Liston Medallist and playing over 200 games of VFA football. Swan kicked the winning goal for Williamstown in their thrilling win over the Phil Maylin coached Springvale in 1990.

Bill Swan was recruited from Broadmeadows.

Swan's cousin Roy Ramsay played 126 games for Nth Melbourne and Essendon.
