Game Review
In history, this game is recognised as a 9 point win against Fitzroy at the Junction Oval. In the heavy conditions at the Junction Oval, reserves Russell Ohlsen and Wayne Deledio played very well when they came on the ground and helped Carlton to this 9 point victory. But with a time machine, you'd do a lot more with this Round 10 game - especially from a Carlton perspective. You would recognise the surname of the day's debutant - Deledio - and perhaps encourage someone on the match committee to give him a good 100 games or so to make his mark, and not just the single game that young Wayne Deledio was afforded by the Blues. Of course, time machines don't exist yet but Deledio's son would prove most useful as a Tiger from 2005 onwards...
Fitzroy took the game right up to Carlton and led them by 21 points at one stage of the last term, but the strong marking of the Blues big men saw them stage a last minute run and kick their third century in a row against the Lions. The Blues have now won six in a row - their best effort since 1972. However, the Lions did grab some respect from the match with their courageous game by scoring their highest against the Blues in the last seven meetings. Carlton have kicked 16 goals, 19, 16, 16 and 16 in each of their 1st five matches. - Football Record.
