Game Review
..and with just on two minutes to go, Zac Fisher takes the ball 30 metres out, runs a few steps and slots....a BEHIND! OH NO! Is that enough? A one point margin going in to the death throes of the game against the ladder leading GWS Giants!? OMG!But more on that later....
The Blues entered this Round 12 clash after three successive losses and a week off, and were sitting in 17th place ahead of only the Brisbane Lions. The GWS Giants super-team sat at the top, and boasted one of the best young midfields ever compiled. But the betting markets thought we were a chance at least, and 20000 odd Blues fans and about 200 Giants fans rocked up to Docklands to watch this 1 v 17 clash. Heading in the Blues had dropped Macreadie and Graham, and continued to manage Petrevski-Seton, and welcomed back Dale Thomas plus added Liam Jones and Jed Lamb for their first game of the year. Jones in particular would be of interest to the fans after two indifferent years on the list but a rich vein on form in the seconds that saw him deservedly selected...
The Blues opened strongly to score 4 goals in the first quarter and managed to maintain that ascendancy going in to the last quarter.
But the Giants came, inevitably, and with 5 minutes to go were in front. Levi Casboult took a mark and scored a behind to even the scores, before Fisher's grab and behind two minutes out. Against this Giants midfield we all thought we needed more!
In a tight last few minutes the Blues held the lead and as the Giants approached goals on the outer wing, the siren sounded, and a jubilant Carlton outfit had knocked off the top (near top) team.
