Game Review
At least the Navy Blues finished off another lack-lustre season on a positive note with this solid win over South Melbourne at the Lake Oval. Our eighth victory of the year saw us climb back to seventh on the ladder, but the gap between the top four sides and the rest was considerable.Among the positives overall were the emergence of John Nicholls as a quality ruckman, Johnny James as a dasher in defence, and the goal-scoring consistency of rover Leo Brereton, whose 44 majors for the year was the second-best total in the competition.
On the downside, the club farewelled four loyal and appreciated servants in Gerald Burke, Denis Zeunert, Jack Sullivan and John Chick.
