Game Review
Essendon had served notice of their improvement the previous week, when they knocked Collingwood out of second position on the ladder. This week, bolstered by the return of their champion Albert Thurgood, they travelled to Princes Park full of confidence did it again - holding Carlton scoreless in the first term and inflicting the Blues’ first defeat of the season by six goals.Lively forward Norm Yeo kicked another four majors for the victors, taking his total to 21 and drawing to within one of Carlton’s Frank Caine at the top of the table. A pair of Jacks – Grant and Hammond, each kicked a goal for Carlton on debut. While this loss came as a shock for the Blues, it wasn’t a disaster. With 24 points and a healthy percentage, we were still comfortably in front of Essendon (20 points) Collingwood and Fitzroy (both 16).
At the end of this round Carlton were in 1st spot on the ladder with a percentage of 144.1.
