Jack/John James Joyce
1882 J. Joyce was elected captain of Britannia*
He had joined Brittannia two days after the club was formed in 1878 and remained on its committee through his four years at Carlton and up until the club disbanded and reformed as Collingwood. (Sportsman August 23 (p1) 1922
1882 Recruited from Britannia F. C. "a magnificent all round player, can be depended on anywhere, cannot be beaten as a back player, is also a splendid kick."
1883 A leading player.
1884 Was also included in the best from Victoria for the season.

1888 The Fitzroy Football Club web site names Jack Joyce playing for the club in 1888
1889 April 20
A player named Joyce was named in the Britannia team that played a pre season game against Richmond.
Jack Joyce became one of the foundation players for the new Collingwood club in 1892.
He played one VFA game for the new club in Round 14 1892.
The Adelaide Advertiser ran a story on Joyce and E. Copeland, the then Collingwood secretary, who were visiting Adelaide in 1941.

"The genial J. J. Joyce figured in the ranks of Carlton when George Coulthard, William Goer (Billy Goer), the Robertsons, and Paddy Gunn were such stars; but Jack was better known in conjunction with the Britannia Club, from which Collingwood sprang. In fact, he was one of the founders of the now famous "Magpies."

Jack Joyce died aged 84 years.
The Collingwood Football Club have named a trophy after Joyce. The J. J. Joyce Trophy was first awarded in 1950. It acknowledged his work in establishing a V.F.A. senior club to represent the district.
