Game Review
On a beautiful autumn day Carlton and St Kilda played indoors at Colonial Stadium. There was much curiousity for Carlton fans to see how they would go without AFL Team of the Century fullback Steve Silvagni and new forward/ruck Corey McKernan.Missing from the Carlton side were regulars Whitnall (a late withdrawal), Freeborn, Hulme, and Koutoufides who was recovering from his horrific knee injury received in the 2001 Semi against Richmond. Still given last year's form it was thought the Blues would be too strong.
However that would not be the case with the Saints gaining the early ascendency with McKernan kicking our only major for the 1st quarter.
The Blues fought back and gained the lead in the 3rd quarter, looking like they could overpower the Saints. But the last quarter St. Kilda kicked 7 goals to 3, led by their old hands Loewe and Harvey. Gehrig had a super game in defence whilst for Carlton McKay was terrific.
