Game Review
Yes, Carlton conceded a 21-point lead at three-quarter time, but what the scorecard does not reveal is that North kicked 2 vital goals during time-on in the 3rd quarter. They then finished the game off with a 10-goals to one final quarter, with Wayne Schimmelbusch and John Byrne leading the onslaught. Again, another last quarter fade-out by the Blues.
Carlton - suffering a bit from post-premiership blues, but still formidable because of the cool heads such as Doull and Southby, the kickgetters such as Armstrong, Wells and Johnston, and the devastating pace of Catoggio, Buckley, Marcou, Ashman and Sheldon. Maclure showed a return to form on Saturday against North Melbourne, and that makes them still a definite chance for the premiership. I think their problem is still up forward. You can cheat up front some of the time with mediocrity, but not all the time. However, give them a hard ground, a big crowd and room to move at VFL Park and the MCG and they could beat any team. - Barry Richardson Inside Football
