Game Review

The widespread disruption of daily life in Melbourne during World War II impacted on the VFL again this round, forcing this match to be transferred to the picturesque Toorak Park the home of VFA club Prahran. Sitting third on the ladder, Carlton were expected to comfortably account for the tenth-placed Saints, but that's not how things panned out. The Blues kicked six goals straight in the first quarter and seemed set for a comfortable win, only for the Saints to lift and roll home over the top of their visitors for a 12-point win.

It was a costly loss for Carlton - we tumbled from third on the ladder to sixth, and also bid farewell to respected Geelong utility Jim Knight. Jim had played 15 matches for the Blues while Geelong were in recess, and he was waiting to be inducted into the RAAF. Tragically, he was killed only a few months later, when his aircraft crashed on take-off in New Guinea.

Carlton dropped to sixth on the ladder with a percentage of 108.0.
