Game Review
Bad kicking is...yes, we're sure you've heard it before. Well, we had won the scoring shots but couldn't quite nail the Swans who would take out this game. This was also the game where Swan Tony Morwood was awarded a free kick for tackling Carlton's Tom Alvin. The disappointing part for Tommy was that he was grabbed by his flowing mane, and stopped in his tracks when his head was nearly torn off. To his disbelief, he was penalised for holding the ball! This was definitely one for the highlights (or lowlights) reel.
Captain's effort
A superb example of captaincy was on display at the SCG. The Blues skipper Mark Maclure tried desperately to lift his side and his strong marking in packs was a highlight of the game. One mark was plucked in with two Swans bearing down on him should have set his teammates alight. Maclure does not get a great deal of credit for his courageous work, but he surely must be one of the most invaluable players in the VFL. - Jim Main Inside Football.
