Son of former Carlton pioneer great O.T.L. "Lanty" O'Brien.

Orlando 'Lanty' O'Brien had three sons, one, Thomas O'Brien was working in Kalgoorlie W.A. at the time of Lanty's death in 1911.
1894 The Argus April 30 p7. describes him as,
"plucky and consistent rather than the brilliant type."
Although it was mentioned in the May 5 report that he had decided to remain with the juniors for another year, the following week an O'Brien was mentioned as playing against Port Melbourne on the M.C.G.
1895 T. O'Brien departed for Rovers W. A.
Thomas had in his possession his father's prized book which was a copy of the first Carlton Football Club Rules. Unfortunately Thomas left the book on a train in Perth.
He was a Civil Servant in the Postal Department.
