Game Review
The Blues entered the match on a 4 game winning streak, but poor early season form meant the match was a must-win.The Magpies were certain finalists and in a battle with Richmond for second spot. Essendon seemed to have a mortgage on top position. Melbouurne held fourth over a fading Fitzroy who seemed gone having not won since round 11. The Blues were due to meet the top four sides in the final 4 rounds. If Carlton were to see September action they were going to have to earn it.
A fine third quarter saw the Blues transform a 14 point deficit into a 13 point lead. The last quarter was nip-and-tuck and although Collingwood could claim that injuries marred their chances, the Blues margin of 10 straight behinds suggests they were worthy winners.
During the 3rd quarter, field umpire Frank Spokes reported Collingwood's Ernie McIntyre for striking Ollie Grieve and Ernie was subsequently suspended for four matches.
