Game Review
For the second week running, Carlton captain Stephen Kernahan was held goalless, but the Blues were still too good for a faltering St Kilda at Princes Park. The game was highlighted by Stephen Silvagni’s impassable steadiness in defence, and the duel in the middle between Carlton vice-captain Craig Bradley and young Saint Robert Harvey. Harvey gained 37 possessions, but Bradley was more efficient and honours were shared.
Rover Fraser Murphy and flanker Luke O'Sullivan both kicked four goals for the Blues, while Peter Sartori was valuable in the ruck and contributed another three majors in a deserved victory by 15 points. Silvagni's excellence at full-back earned him three Brownlow Medal votes, with youngster Andrew Phillips picking up two votes in an eye-catching effort.
Carlton remained sixth on the ladder, however the percentage gap between the Blues and fifth-placed Hawthorn had blown out to more than 8%, in the wake of the Hawks’ demolition of Richmond at the MCG.
