Game Review
Although the Bulldogs were languishing in tenth place on the ladder and Carlton sat right at the top, trips to the Western Oval were never looked forward to throughout the seventies and eighties. This game was no different. The Blues were just a point in front at half-time, and it took another 'Premiership Quarter' blitz to shake the tenacious doggies off. Once we had broken away, the boys went right on with the job and the final margin was a bit unfair to Footscray.
'Percy' Jones and Mike Fitzpatrick were superb in the ruck for Carlton, giving the Blues' fleet of runners an armchair ride. Kelvin Templeton kicked 7 goals and was valiant in defeat for Footscray.
''Statistically Speaking
Carlton's victory over Footscray by 49 points reflected in the statistics of 13.3% more kicks, 45.6% more marks, and 60.9% more scoring shots. Footscray's advantage of 1% in handballs and 26.6% in the ruck hit outs, could not stop defeat from the League leaders. - Ray Young Football Record.''
