"I saw George Cook play his last game on the Melbourne cricket ground. Fitzroy were Carlton's opponents, Cook playing centre, turning like a flash, injured his knee, and was carried off, and a fine player was lost to the game." (Age July 06 p6 1935)
Cook played in the Carlton vs England match at the M.C.G. June 23 1888.

The Bendigo Advertiser April 21, reported that "George Cook, an old Carlton man who is now residing in Bendigo is also expected to wear the cardinal's (Sandhurst) colors."

A permit was granted for G. Cook (Carlton) to Sandhurst.
He was in his 50th. year.

OBITUARY
"Old football patrons will be sorry to hear of the death of George Cook, the old Carlton footballer of the eighties, which occurred last Sunday rather suddenly. He was fine player in his day, and retired from the game in 1888, on account of a painful accident.He was in his 50th. year.
