Game Review
A strong win over the reigning premiers was possibly Carlton’s best performance over the first 15 rounds and boded well for the next week’s meeting with the high-flying Essendon. The match was tight in the first half, with Carlton just 4 points in front at half time. But they kept the Crows to just 2 points in the third quarter, while adding 5 goals and set up a match winning lead. Brad Pearce was back to his dynamic best with 5 goals, leading well and kicking accurately. Scott Camporeale kicked 4. Matthew Lappin kicked 3, including one of the goals of the year, miraculously dribbling the ball through from deep in the forward pocket. Lance Whitnall and Simon Beaumont also kicked 3. The midfield were dominant, with a career-best 37 disposals from Justin Murphy, 33 from Brett Ratten, 32 from Craig Bradley (who took the 3 Brownlow votes) and 30 from Anthony Koutoufides.Despite their big win, Carlton remained in 8th position, with a percentage of 97.4%.
