McCarthy scored one of Carlton's two goals, ( the other by W. 'Bill' Gorman ) which gave Carlton it's first victory against the Melbourne Football Club.

The Australasian's cricket writer "Felix" (on page 20) writing about the Carlton Cricket Cub's new ground in Princes Park recalls the old rallying cry "Forward Carlton!" and the old-time players who were associated with it. Among many of the old name players mentioned, one is Tom McCarthy.
