Game Review

Carlton's finals chances were forlorn before this meeting with Essendon at Waverley.

After the narrow loss they were non-existent.

Essendon held a marginal ascendency throughout and whilst the Blues continually snapped at their heels never really looked likely to break the game open.

Although Carlton put on a desperate effort in the last quarter they failed by six points to catch Essendon, who recorded their third win at VFL Park and first win against the Blues in the last 14 matches. It was the first time Carlton have failed to score a century or better against Essendon in the last six matches. - Football Record.
